Neither computer has any WD software installed on it, and both drives (white and black) are unencrypted. Both computers are running the latest version of Windows 10. But when I reconnected it to my laptop, it still wouldn’t show up on anything. However, I then connected the drive to my desktop computer and it was working just fine I could read and write files, no problem. Disconnecting it from the hub and connecting it to one of the USB 3.0 ports on the laptop itself didn’t fix it, nor did restarting the computer. Immediately after, the white one (but not the black one) stopped showing up on my computer at all: not in file explorer, not in disk management, not even in device manager. I had both connected to my laptop computer via the same USB C to 4-USB 3.0 hub and was copying a folder from the black one to the white one when both drives briefly lost power, likely due to the hub not being able to draw enough for both drives. You likely need to remove a few gigabytes of data to make room for Quicken data so you can use your present drive without a massive erasing procedure.I have two My Passport Ultra 3TB portable hard drives, one black, the other white. For a PC, you can find a nice portable drive of 1TB capacity on sale for around $60-70.Ī Mac HD version will cost more, because manufacturers know Mac users are used to paying more for computer stuff (seriously!).Īlso, you likely do not need to erase everything on your current HD to make room for the Quicken backup.

The price of hard drives has really come down since you got the one you have. If you have not yet embarked on this project, consider this: What is important is if you are using a PC you use a PC formatted drive, but if you are using a Mac you should use a pre-formatted for Mac drive, it will make your life easier. Deborah, if you plan to use drive for Quicken Backup only, the drive needs no special formatting.
